GERRY – The Gerry Rodeo committee, as well as their stock contractor, received several top honors at the First Frontier Circuit Finals held recently in the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.
The contestants at this rodeo, which is the championship for all the rodeos held in the First Frontier Circuit, voted Gerry as the “Contestants’ Favorite Rodeo” for 2018. This circuit is one of twelve rodeo circuits across the nation and consists of the states in the original thirteen colonies, with the top twelve contestants in each of the seven rodeo events in this circuit qualifying for the finals
In addition, Painted Pony Pro Rodeo Company of Lake Lucerne, New York, which has been the stock contractor for the Gerry Rodeo for the past nine years, had their bareback bronc George’s Bad Cat voted as the “Bareback Bronc of the Year” and their bull Holy Holly named “Bull of the Year”.
Rodeo chairman Tom Atwell says these awards speak well for the work of the committee and the nearly 200 volunteers that make the rodeo possible and for the quality of the shows provided by the stock contractor. He adds that the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department has always tried to have outstanding family entertainment, and they are looking forward to a very special event as they celebrate their 75th consecutive year of rodeo in August.
The Gerry rodeo is now the longest consecutively running rodeo east of the Mississippi and is scheduled for four nightly performances this summer, July 31 through August 3. More than 200 professional cowboys and cowgirls from across the nation are expected to compete for nearly $50,000 in prize money.
